Kirill Kaprizov scored a pair of goals, and the Minnesota Wild pulled away for a 4-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night in Saint Paul, Minn.
Quinn Hughes tallied a goal and an assist for Minnesota, which won its second game in a row to start the season. Wild captain Jared Spurgeon also scored a goal.
Tanner Jeannot scored the lone goal for Boston, which was playing on short rest after defeating the Winnipeg Jets one night earlier.
Wild goaltender Jesper Wallstedt stopped 26 of 27 shots to earn the victory.
Bruins goaltender Michael DiPietro allowed three goals on 29 shots in his season debut. DiPietro stuffed Wild forward Matt Boldy on a breakaway but allowed a pair of power-play goals.
The Bruins opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game. Jeannot set up toward the left side of the crease, took a short pass from Mark Kastelic and fired the puck into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Boston held that lead for over a full period before Minnesota pulled even with 13:49 to go in the second period. The Wild capitalized on a power-play opportunity when Maxim Shabanov got the puck behind the net and passed it to Kaprizov, who scored on a snap shot.
The Wild delivered on the power play once again to grab a 2-1 lead with 7:32 remaining in the second period. Ryan Hartman won a faceoff and Bobby Brink redirected the puck to Hughes, who skated to the high slot and unleashed a wrist shot through traffic that beat DiPietro.
Minnesota made it 3-1 with 16:36 left in the third period. Spurgeon fired a long shot that deflected off the skate of Bruins defender Nikita Zadorov and into the net.
Kaprizov capped the scoring when he punched in a backhanded shot for an empty-net goal with 1:01 to go. The play gave him three goals in two games to start the season.
